1417 Days of War: Historical Milestone and Developments at the Front

1417 days since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine: historical parallels, current frontlines, strategy shifts, and army support.

Today marks 1,417 days since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This number carries special significance as it matches the length of WWII for the Soviet Union. Yet, while the Soviet army reached Berlin in that period, Russian forces have failed to accomplish their declared victory.

This milestone prompts Russian propagandists to compare the present war to historical events and recognize the failure of their "lightning victory" plans. The Kremlin's declared goals—"denazification" and "demilitarization"—effectively meant the attempted annihilation of Ukraine and the potential use of its resources against Europe. In reality, Russia's achievements have been limited to local battles and significant losses in both personnel and equipment.

Meanwhile, Ukraine, which was expected by many to fall early in the war, has withstood the assault and established robust defenses. The armed forces have carried out unique operations that have altered history: the sinking of the cruiser Moskva, strikes against Russian submarines and Black Sea Fleet vessels, and attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure. Ukrainian special services have also successfully targeted strategic Russian aviation, reducing the frequency of large-scale missile barrages.

In addition to battlefield successes, Ukraine is strengthening international support, adjusting its defense strategy, and addressing mobilization challenges. Despite continuous Russian attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, the country maintains its resilience. On the other hand, Russia is facing growing geopolitical challenges and a loss of influence internationally.

Amidst ongoing hardship, Ukrainian society is urged to remain united and support the military, recognizing that enemy terror seeks to demoralize civilians. The article emphasizes the need for a revamped defense strategy and greater mobilization capacity, stressing that determination is key for Ukraine to endure difficult times and move closer to victory.
