Energy Crisis in Ukraine: Strikes on Facilities, Ukrainian Response and International Context

Ukraine's defense struck a Russian plant in Taganrog following mass Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. Energy situation is critical; new attacks expected.

Ukraine's defense forces continue efforts to demilitarize the so-called Russian Federation. Recently, a joint operation by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and Navy targeted a military-industrial plant in Taganrog, Rostov region, with a drone and missile strike. The attack hit workshops of the "Atlanta Aero" plant, which produces reconnaissance-attack drones "Molniya" and components for "Orion" UAVs.

Simultaneously, Russian forces continued heavy strikes on Ukraine’s civil infrastructure, launching over 300 drones and missiles across several regions, damaging energy facilities and hitting a postal terminal near Kharkiv. Four people were killed, and six others injured.

Official Russian representatives deny targeting civilian objects at international forums, yet facts on the ground indicate otherwise. Ukrainian intelligence warns of upcoming massive strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure aimed at demoralizing the population.

The energy system in Ukraine remains under severe strain, especially in harsh winter conditions. Authorities urge investment in more drones, anti-air defense systems, and the development of local generation facilities to reduce dependency on national grids.

In addition, Ukrainian forces—along with international allies—are attacking Russian oil tankers used to bypass sanctions. While such operations have inflicted significant damage on Russian oil exports, a comprehensive dismantling of export infrastructure at key ports—Tuapse, Novorossiysk, Ust-Luga, and Primorsk—is seen as necessary to further weaken Russia’s war potential.

Ukraine also continues defense reforms and military support initiatives, including fund-raising for more drones. The situation remains difficult, but unity and support for the defenders sustain resistance.
