The Global Role of China, Trump, and New Challenges: Interview with Artur Kharetonov

An in-depth analysis of China's influence on global economic and political processes, the role of the US and prospects for Ukraine, as assessed by experts.

On January 15, an interview took place with Artur Kharetonov, President of the Liberal Democratic League of Ukraine, organized by the Center for Public Analytics “Vezha.” The main topics were China's global economic impact, US policies, and Ukraine's role in these processes.

The expert emphasized that China's official statistics are often questioned by international organizations, and the effects of US tariffs on China will be seen in the coming decade rather than in a single year. Many companies have begun diversifying their manufacturing to countries such as India, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and Eastern Europe. However, due to the ongoing war, Ukraine has not benefited from these global supply chain shifts.

The discussion addressed Ukraine's potential as a recipient of foreign investments and the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on international cooperation. The interest of China in Ukrainian resources, especially on occupied territories in partnership with Russia, was highlighted. Strategic interests of global powers in Greenland, Venezuela, the Arctic, and key resources were discussed in the context of the economic and political rivalry between the US, China, and Russia.

The experts noted that China aims to strengthen its influence by supporting autocratic regimes, while the US seeks to control key energy markets and the Arctic region to secure its own safety and leverage. These global processes, they suggest, will determine the balance of power in the coming years.
