Ukrainian Delegation Holds Talks in the US Ahead of Zelensky-Trump Meeting

Ukrainian officials are in the US negotiating security guarantees, investments, and support with representatives of the Trump administration.

A Ukrainian delegation including Presidential Office Head Kyrylo Budalov, National Security Secretary Rustem Umerov, and the leader of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, David Rakhami, has arrived in the United States for talks with White House representatives. The discussions focus on security guarantees for Ukraine, investment, and post-war assistance.

The delegation met with US presidential special representative Steve Withhof, President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll, who recently joined the negotiation process and has held separate talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

These talks are especially significant ahead of the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Davos. It is expected that documents outlining further cooperation on security and investment support for Ukraine could be signed during that meeting.

However, due to Russia's current position, achieving real progress towards ending the war seems unlikely. Ukraine's main goal is now to develop a unified position with the US to increase pressure on Russia and secure more US support.

Following a reduction in US aid, the Ukrainian delegation aims to convince the American administration to step up assistance, particularly in air defense and weapons supplies. A framework document may also be signed at the Davos forum, although its practical implementation remains uncertain.

The key task for Ukrainian negotiators is to maintain strong US relations and develop a joint strategy for either ending the war or weakening the Russian position.
