He points out that none of the parties are leaving the process, and quick solutions should not be expected due to the complex positions of participants, including the European Union, the UK, the US, and Russia.
The discussion focuses on Donald Trump’s role as he seeks negotiating leverage ahead of potential talks with the Chinese leader, particularly on issues like the Caribbean region, Russia, and Greenland. According to Kluchok, Arctic security is becoming increasingly significant as the interests of the US, China, and Russia converge there — something Western countries have not seriously addressed previously.
Kluchok believes future meetings of world leaders may focus not only on Ukraine but also on major geopolitical topics, including Greenland. The prospect of discussing Ukrainian security is uncertain, as both the American and European sides may focus on their strategic interests.
He notes that much public discussion about Ukraine’s reconstruction, security guarantees, and peace agreements is more about the optics than real practical outcomes. Many agreements remain only on paper, and ending the war is the main prerequisite for positive changes in Ukraine. Kluchok emphasizes that decisions in the US are now made by Donald Trump, and the Ukrainian side must realistically assess support in light of the changing political context.
According to Kluchok, the negotiation process continues, despite public statements, and any potential progress depends on thorough preparation and finding compromises among the main parties involved.
