Key Events at Davos Forum, Geopolitical Tensions, Situation in Ukraine and New Fundraiser for the 66th Brigade

Summary of the main morning topics: Davos Forum kickoff, Greenland standoff, attacks on Ukrainian cities, and a fundraiser for the 66th Brigade.

On January 20, the World Economic Forum began in Davos, Switzerland. A meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky was expected, but currently not on the agenda. French President Emmanuel Macron is not joining Trump’s Peace Council, causing diplomatic strain.

Macron voiced concerns over new security structures, calling the UN Charter inviolable. Trump responded with threats of high tariffs on French wine if there is no cooperation and made public a private message from Macron regarding Greenland.

Amid the geopolitical rivalry, Denmark and Greenland proposed a NATO mission in the Arctic to enhance security. Tensions between the US and Europe over Greenland continue, with European media reporting Trump may have been misinformed about military deployments on the island. The US president also posted an image of the US flag being raised in Greenland.

A massive attack hit Ukraine the night of January 20, with Kyiv, Odesa, Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Rivne hardest hit. Strikes damaged critical energy infrastructure, leaving parts of the capital without water and heat. Authorities have organized additional Points of Invincibility. The attacks resulted in civilian injuries and damages to residential buildings.

The Ukrainian delegation at the Davos Forum is focused on energy support, boosting defense capability, and efforts to end the war. There’s also an emphasis on current international political realities and maintaining support among allies.

A fundraiser is ongoing for the 66th Armed Forces Brigade for a generator, tires, and spare parts. The goal is 90,000 UAH, with 15,000 UAH already left from previous donations. Details can be found in the author’s video description.
