Ostap Drozdov, a renowned journalist, blogger, and writer, shared his perspective on the main themes of the World Economic Forum in Davos during an interview with Radio UA Chicago. He pointed out that the attention of world leaders is increasingly shifting from Ukraine to other global challenges such as Greenland, Taiwan, and the Middle East. He highlighted the notable statement by Canada’s Prime Minister: “If we are not at the table, we are on the menu,” which Drozdov uses to describe Ukraine’s current role in global affairs.
Drozdov expresses concern that Ukraine has moved to the “dessert” position in the list of global priorities. He emphasizes the importance of the country’s active participation in international decision-making and warns about the risk of the US losing interest in the war in Ukraine. In his view, this threatens the loss of support and further deterioration of the situation at the front and in the economy.
The journalist also comments on the IMF chief's remarks about the inadmissibility of mass subsidies for the population, arguing for the necessity of reforming the support system and fighting poverty. He exposes the problems of the pension system, social injustice, and corruption at all levels. Drozdov stresses that without profound structural changes, Ukraine will remain among those merely waiting for aid.
The interview concluded with a discussion on state responsibility, new challenges for pensioners, misappropriation of state funds, and the lack of professionalism within the government. Drozdov highlights that the key is strengthening international partnerships and focusing on the citizen as the state's core value.
