Key Developments of the Day: Peace Talks in Davos, Greenland Deal, Ukraine's Energy Crisis

Analysis of meetings in Davos, US-Europe agreement on Greenland, prospects for peace, energy crisis, and front-line updates.

On January 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urgently departed for Davos to participate in talks aimed at resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Ukrainian delegation in Davos held meetings with representatives from the US, Norway, Qatar, and the investment company BlackRock. Discussions included the establishment of a free economic zone in Donbas and preparations for a prosperity agreement between Ukraine and the US.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump announced a proposal for a duty-free regime for Donbas and invited Vladimir Putin to join the Peace Council. Putin expressed readiness to use frozen Russian assets in the US to restore occupied territories, discussing the matter with the US.

The Greenland agreement provides for Denmark's sovereignty over the island while allowing an increased US military presence, designed to limit Russian and Chinese influence in the Arctic. Trump and NATO Secretary General Rutte confirmed a framework for renewed defense cooperation.

Ukraine is facing an ongoing energy crisis: widespread power outages have left many Kyiv apartment buildings without heating. Russia continues drone attacks, launching 94 drones in one night, with 80 shot down or brought down by Ukrainian air defenses. There are reports of injuries in Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kherson.

Upcoming elections are under discussion: the Central Election Commission suggests holding elections six months after the end of martial law, allowing time to prepare infrastructure and update voter registries.

Authorities also reported the detention of a Kyiv district administration deputy head for organizing draft evasion through forged medical documents.
