Yesterday, Russian forces attacked a passenger train in Kharkiv region using a drone, deliberately targeting the passenger cars. At least five people were killed in the strike. Russian forces used guided missiles, clearly identifying their target. Following the attack, a Ukrainian soldier rescued a baby from the train.
Such attacks on civilian infrastructure are not isolated: the occupiers have repeatedly targeted transport facilities with drones. The Russians use MESH communication systems, Ukrainian LTE networks, and even Starlink satellite internet for drone operations. Recent evidence shows Starlinks on new drone types.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense is actively addressing this threat, and citizens are urged to contribute to the purchase of interceptor drones for air defense.
On the European front, 14 countries—among them the UK, Germany, France, Poland, and the Baltic states—have issued a joint statement announcing the closure of the Baltic Sea to Russia’s 'shadow fleet' tankers. Tankers that hide their origin or switch flags will be recognized as stateless vessels and may be detained.
These actions are coordinated with the United States, which is also increasing pressure on Russian shipping. Recently, French special forces seized a 'shadow fleet' tanker and Italian authorities detained a ship carrying Russian metal.
The Russian Navy is incapable of providing consistent escort to all 'shadow fleet' vessels, and attempted shows of force remain rare and symbolic.
Analysts point out that Russia’s shadow fleet enables not only sanction evasion, but also sabotage activities—including infrastructure damage or drone launches targeting EU countries. European states are called upon to respond firmly.
On the front lines, the situation remains difficult: Russian troops have achieved local gains, especially in the Sloviansk, Pokrovsk, Novopavlivka, and Zaporizhzhia areas. Ukrainian forces urge the public to continue supporting the purchase of drones and other needed supplies.
Several Ukrainian military units thanked donors for new drones. The military stresses: negotiations with Russians are impossible, and continued support for Ukraine’s defense is vital.
