Trump Criticizes Zelensky: Oil Sanctions, War, and Seeking Putin’s Support

Donald Trump criticized Volodymyr Zelensky for not seeking peace with Russia and discussed lifting oil sanctions against Russia.

US President Donald Trump has once again criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In an interview with NBC, Trump claimed that, unlike Vladimir Putin, Zelensky is not looking for ways to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump also asked the journalist to tell Zelensky that Putin is open to making a deal.

According to Trump, it is more difficult to deal with Zelensky than with Putin. In addition, Trump implied that Ukraine cannot help the US fight against Iranian drones. These statements are linked to the complex situation on the oil market, especially after worsening relations with Iran and threats to oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.

In the interview, Trump noted that he is looking for ways to stabilize oil prices and is considering temporarily lifting sanctions against Russia. He promised to reinstate them when supply issues are resolved, but other G7 leaders did not support his proposal.

Journalists highlight that the US president faces political risk from possible rising fuel prices. Trump accused Zelensky and Ukraine of creating obstacles to the delivery of Russian oil. Analysts note that Ukraine’s experience in fighting Iranian drones is recognized even by Gulf countries and Israel, which contradicts Trump’s statements.

Trump’s criticism is seen as a response to political difficulties and searching for a scapegoat before elections. However, experts believe that the real situation will force the US leader to acknowledge Ukraine’s contribution to Western security.
