Protests in Russia, War, and International Response: Event Overview

An overview of protests inside Russia, its war actions against Ukraine, and the world's reaction to the Hormuz Strait blockade.

This article reviews recent global and Russian domestic events. US President Donald Trump earlier expressed frustration at NATO countries’ reluctance to assist in the conflict with Iran and the unblocking of the Hormuz Strait. Yet, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, and Canada issued a joint statement promising support after active combat ceases. France, in particular, stated it would not join forceful actions while hostilities continue.

The US is considering lifting some sanctions on Iranian oil to help stabilize global prices for a short period, which could economically benefit Iran for 10-14 days.

Meanwhile, protests in Russia are on the rise. Citizens demonstrate against internal problems, such as the mass culling of cattle in Novosibirsk region, which has caused heavy financial losses for farmers. Some villages have even proposed changing their names to appeal to authorities to halt these measures.

On Ukraine’s eastern front, Ukrainian forces report significant Russian losses and thank volunteers for providing vital FPV drones, which are crucial for defense amid intensified Russian offensives. A surge in public donations helps quickly supply the necessary equipment.

Remarkably, protest sentiment in Russia is growing even among prior government supporters. Open calls for change are becoming frequent; prominent bloggers who urge Putin to resign are facing persecution and psychiatric institutionalization, highlighting a deepening domestic crisis in Russia.
