Weekly Review: Energy Crisis, Middle East, Trump's Role and Ukraine's Position

Experts analyze political, energy, and economic challenges for Ukraine amid the Middle East crisis and the actions of the United States.

On March 20, in the weekly program of the Center for Public Analytics "Vezha," experts discussed the main challenges facing Ukraine in external and internal policy. The center's head, Valeriy Kluchok, together with invited political scientists and economists, talked about the scale of the energy and political crisis caused by events in the Middle East.

The main focus was on how the Middle East conflict has affected pricing structures, global oil markets, and energy relations between the US, Europe, Russia, and China. Experts noted that the changes in oil pricing have given Russia new financial opportunities to continue the war. Meanwhile, the West is forced to reconsider its sanction policy towards Russia due to global economic risks.

The participants emphasized that the Trump administration seeks to restore relations with Russia to exert pressure on China, but the reality of Russia–China partnership is strong, making a Kremlin foreign policy shift unlikely. The Middle East crisis, according to experts, allowed for the easing of sanctions against Russia and directly influenced Russia's resources for its aggression against Ukraine.

It was stressed that Ukraine is dependent on international support and funding, especially in conditions of economic instability and challenges for air defense. Europe supports Ukraine with credit, avoiding direct military involvement, as public opinion on war remains negative.

In terms of domestic politics, the discussion addressed the crisis in communication between the president and parliament and its impact on the legislative process and reform support. Experts concluded that strategic unity and effective cooperation among state institutions are critical for Ukraine's resilience during war. The program ended with an appeal to strategic thinking, innovation, and unity amid global change.
