Global Geopolitics: Iranian Leader's Surgery, Russian Elite Fiasco, Trump's Manipulations, and Budapest Protests

Overview of international developments: Iran's secret surgery, Russian elite's blunder, Trump's NATO pressure, Houthi threats, and Budapest protests.

The world is facing new geopolitical challenges. According to Middle Eastern media, Iran's supreme leader was evacuated to Moscow for a secret surgery after reportedly being injured in an attack. He is currently in a private hospital on one of Putin's government dachas near Moscow.

Meanwhile, Budapest is seeing mass protests against Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Thousands have taken to the streets supporting opposition leader Peter Magyar, a pro-European and pro-Ukrainian figure in contrast to the pro-Russian Orban.

In the Middle East, tensions around Iran and the Houthis are escalating. Following threats to block the Strait of Hormuz, the Houthis announced plans to also block the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, which could disrupt up to 35% of global energy traffic and trigger a major spike in energy prices.

Donald Trump continues to put political pressure on NATO countries, manipulating the security situation in the Hormuz Strait and the future of the Alliance. However, Western responses remain cautious, with Britain notably refusing to send military ships to the region.

Inside Russia, the Kremlin is tightening its control: independent internet access is being blocked, "white lists" of websites are introduced, and censorship is growing, making Russia resemble North Korea in its information environment.

Russian elite operatives suffered a major embarrassment: while using Google Translate for secret communications, they inadvertently leaked sensitive information to Western intelligence agencies.

Ukrainians are actively fighting back: successful drone attacks on Russian fuel bases in Krasnodar region are undermining Russian logistics, while Ukrainian athletes and those from 20 other countries are boycotting the closing ceremony of the 2026 Paralympics in protest against Russia.

Overall, the world is steadily entering a new phase of multi-level global confrontation in which Ukraine continues to play a significant role.
