In a detailed interview, Vitaliy Portnikov, journalist and political commentator, shared his personal career story and advice for today’s youth during challenging times for Ukraine. Drawing on the transformations he witnessed, Portnikov emphasized the value of engaging in change and seeking motivation that goes beyond material gain.
A substantial part of the conversation focused on statehood, civil society development, the role of institutions and regional diversity. Portnikov noted that building a strong state relies on respect for institutions and inclusivity. The problems of political system degradation during wartime, and the necessity of public oversight and separation of powers, were discussed.
Global challenges were also explored, including Ukraine’s place in the new security architecture, the influence of the US, EU, China, and Ukraine’s military expertise. Issues of national identity, Russia’s imperial ambitions, collective responsibility, and the West’s attitude toward Russians and Ukrainians were also addressed.
Concluding the talk, Portnikov stressed the importance of preserving statehood and youth perseverance. He advised that realizing and protecting the future comes through education, civic engagement, and awareness of the European choice.
