On March 27, the Veza Center for Public Analytics held a discussion with invited experts to review the week's most important events. Political scientists, economists and Middle East researchers participated in the discussion.
The main focus was the situation in the Persian Gulf region and the significance of the Ukrainian President's visit to Saudi Arabia. Expert Serhii Danylov highlighted trends in the information war between the US and Iran, the impact of the energy crisis on global markets, and internal tensions within the Iranian leadership. The destruction of Iran's production capacities, actions of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and the role of external players were analyzed.
Participants discussed the likelihood of a ground operation against Iran and the consequences of blockading the Strait of Hormuz. The economic section focused on the influence of these events on oil prices, the supply of Russian energy resources to Asia and Europe, difficulties faced by European consumers, and the effect of sanctions shaping a shadow fleet for Russian oil transport.
Special attention was given to ongoing talks about ending the war between Ukraine and Russia, the US position, China's growing role, and various approaches to European security. Internal processes in Ukraine were discussed—mobilization and governance crises, interaction between parliament and government, and the dependence on IMF and EU financial support.
In conclusion, participants noted that Ukraine remains at the center of global geopolitical shifts, with the future determined by the balance of power among key players—the US, EU, China, and Russia.
