Scandal Surrounding MP Yuriy Koryavchenkov's Trip Abroad: Impact on Ukraine's Image

Political scientist Ihor Reyterovych analyzes the scandal over MP Koryavchenkov's trip and its implications for Ukraine's international image.

Political scientist Ihor Reyterovych discusses the controversial trip of Yuriy Koryavchenkov, a "Servant of the People" party MP, abroad. Ukrainian Pravda journalists documented his stay in Spain while on vacation, which is prohibited for MPs during martial law, according to Presidential Decree No. 27 of January 23, 2023.

Koryavchenkov confirmed he was on vacation and claimed all expenses were covered at his own cost. He regularly attends Verkhovna Rada meetings, but the Parliament’s administrative office refused to disclose information about the travel documents granting him permission, stating it is classified as official information.

This situation raises suspicions of possible abuse of power and connections at the top, as such privileges undermine Ukraine’s image during wartime. Reyterovych emphasizes that such incidents create a perception of double standards and damage trust in politicians and the state as a whole.

The political scientist stresses that Ukrainian officials should act transparently and explain the basis for their actions, particularly during martial law. Analyzing the case, Reyterovych notes that ignoring such cases primarily harms Ukraine’s reputation as a state resisting Russian aggression.
