Drone attacks, internet protests, and new restrictions in Russia: analysis of recent events

Analysis of recent strikes on Russian infrastructure, internet restrictions, public protests, and Ukrainian military support.

In recent days, Russian infrastructure has suffered a series of extensive drone attacks, targeting the Ust-Luga port, the Novatek terminal, and industrial sites in Tolyatti and Taganrog. Ukrainian drones also struck facilities in the occupied city of Alchevsk. While Russian authorities reported air defense activity, significant damage to industrial and energy facilities continues.

Amid heightened attacks, internet access in Russia has been increasingly restricted, sparking dissatisfaction among residents. People living in border regions complained of losing timely access to rocket alert notifications. Protests against censorship and restrictions on online resources took place in major cities, although many organizers faced pressure and some protesters were detained by police.

Some demonstrators expressed disappointment with the current situation and the government's failure to ensure safety and freedom of speech. Meanwhile, Russian propaganda attempted to present new messenger platforms as improvements, but public opinion remained largely skeptical.

At the same time, Ukrainian forces are expanding their use of FPV drones on the frontline with support from volunteers and civic organizations. Commanders of various brigades thanked donors for supplying drone batches now used to carry out military missions in Donbas. Contributions remain vital for boosting Ukraine's defense capabilities.
