International Crisis: NATO, Iran, Russia, and the Roles of Trump and the EU in Geopolitics

Key issues: Trump’s NATO remarks, diplomatic moves on Iran, Ukrainian strikes on Russia, and economic losses of the Russian Federation.

The international situation remains tense. Former US President Donald Trump is expected to address the nation soon, with media speculating he might discuss a possible US withdrawal from NATO. No official confirmation exists, and experts consider such a move unlikely. Diplomatic sources report growing complications between the US and Europe regarding NATO and ongoing support for Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Europe is preparing an international forum to discuss the situation around the Hormuz Strait after its closure by Iran. Leaders from 35 countries will participate, but Trump hasn’t been invited. French President Macron and other EU leaders back deeper cooperation and joint solutions to address the crisis.

Trump claims Iran has approached Washington seeking a ceasefire and describes the new Iranian leadership as less radical. The US insists the strait must reopen as a condition for talks and warns Tehran about potential consequences.

The Ukrainian army continues striking Russian targets, including a plant manufacturing missile parts. Rosneft reports a 73% drop in profits, partly due to military actions and Ukrainian drone strikes. The EU will allocate €1.4 billion from the interest on frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine and is discussing even larger financial assistance in the future.

President Zelensky has discussed security guarantees for Ukraine with US representatives, with European partners also involved. While there are no concrete agreements yet, parties have agreed to update official documents to strengthen these guarantees.

Tensions between the US and Europe may complicate Ukraine’s support, but key NATO members reaffirm their commitment to joint decisions. Analysts stress that upcoming agreements will determine the future course of the war and diplomatic processes.
