The Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine launched another strike on Russia’s oil and gas infrastructure. Reports indicate that Ukrainian drones targeted the Bashneft-Novoyl oil refinery in Ufa, a significant facility in Russia’s fuel sector.
This attack was carried out as a response to Russia’s systematic strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. As a result, a fire broke out at the refinery. Bashneft-Novoyl is part of a cluster of three refineries in Ufa, alongside Bashneft-UNPZ and Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim, with a combined processing capacity of about 23.5 million tons per year.
The plant produces a broad range of petroleum products, including fuel used by the Russian military and aviation, and is a key node for transporting oil to Baltic ports. Analysts suggest that the repeated strikes on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure highlight Russia’s reluctance to seek compromise or end its aggression.
Meanwhile, Russia has intensified its use of information warfare, with top officials demanding Ukraine’s capitulation and state propagandists calling for further attacks on Ukrainian energy. Fundraising campaigns continue in Ukraine for drones and cutting-edge weaponry for the Armed Forces.
Globally, developments in the Middle East and the Iranian conflict are impacting oil prices and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, further affecting the course of the Russia-Ukraine war and Russia’s economic stability.
