Ukraine has announced the start of mining its own border, mainly due to potential threats from Transnistria. According to the Presidential Office, there are concerns about possible destabilisation from that direction. Ukrainian military officials are confident in their ability to respond quickly to any threats, and currently, the situation in the region is under control.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has reached an agreement with Egypt, one of the world’s largest grain importers, to refuse the purchase of Russian grain stolen from temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. Russia exports millions of tonnes of grain each year, much of it of Ukrainian origin. Now, Egypt has assured Ukraine that it will not purchase such grain from Russia.
Against this background, Russian politicians, in particular Federation Council Chair Valentina Matviyenko, have made statements hinting at the possibility of kidnapping leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Analysts note that these rhetorical maneuvers indicate growing anxiety among Russian leaders following high-profile kidnappings and deaths of dictators in other countries. The Ukrainian side also highlights its technological advantage in modern mine systems, ensuring an extra level of border security.
Ukraine plans to continue its efforts to prevent Russia from illegally exporting grain and stands ready to assist Moldova regarding Transnistria, should a political decision be made. All these actions are aimed at strengthening the security of Ukraine and its allies.
