European Aid, the War in Ukraine and the US Position: Expert Discussion Highlights

Experts discussed the roles of Europe and the US in assisting Ukraine, assessed the effect of sanctions on Russia, and analyzed war prospects.

In a recent broadcast, experts examined the complex dynamics between Ukraine, Europe, the USA, and Russia amid the ongoing full-scale war. The central theme was the assessment of Europe’s support for Ukraine—encompassing both financial and military aid, the efficiency of sanctions against Russia, and Europe’s effort to balance political statements with tangible assistance.

It was noted that EU financial assistance, while critical for Ukrainian defense, is relatively modest compared to Europe's overall budget. Some experts criticized European bureaucracy and the limited supply of lethal aid, pointing out that Europe continues to purchase Russian energy resources, indirectly supporting Russia’s economy.

The discussion also addressed the role of the United States, with attention to the policies of Donald Trump and the current US administration regarding Ukraine and Russia. Experts remarked that while there is sanction pressure and Western military support, they are not comprehensive; instead, the prevailing economic strategy is gradual depletion of Russian resources.

Participants commented on the positions of certain European leaders, such as the prime ministers of Hungary, Slovakia, and Spain, who partly promote pro-Russian narratives. Nevertheless, Europe remains Ukraine’s key strategic partner.

Other topics included Ukraine’s ability to strike industrial facilities in Russia, the significance of long-range missiles, and the technical and financial challenges of producing them. The need for expanded military support from partners to accelerate Russia’s resource depletion and end the war was emphasized.
