Ceasefire fails: Russian night attacks, frontline updates and international response

Putin ignored Zelensky's announced ceasefire. New strikes on Ukraine, Russian losses, US stance, and Middle East developments.

On May 6, Ukraine announced a ceasefire to begin at midnight, but Russia did not respond to President Volodymyr Zelensky's initiative. Overnight, Russian forces launched over 100 drone and missile attacks across Ukraine, targeting the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Ukrainian air defense shot down most drones, but there were numerous casualties and destruction.

An attack on Zaporizhzhia left at least 12 dead and over 40 injured, with four people in critical condition. In Dnipro, an industrial facility was struck, resulting in deaths and injuries. In the Kharkiv region, residential houses were damaged, and Russian attacks intensified along the Pokrovsk front.

Russia reported downing Ukrainian drones in border regions and over Crimea. Ukraine did not comment on these claims, emphasizing the unilateral nature of the announced ceasefire.

Meanwhile, the United States approved the sale of JDM precision-guided bombs to Ukraine, valued at over $370 million, to bolster its defense. Russia reportedly has over 5,000 missiles of different types and is increasing production with components imported from China. Western partners urge Ukraine to observe a truce, but the situation remains tense.

Moscow is preparing for the May 9 parade under heightened security, with internet shutdowns and airport closures. Ukrainian drone attacks have exposed vulnerabilities even in the Russian capital, influencing Kremlin decisions.

Domestically, Ukraine continues anti-corruption efforts with officials from military commissariats detained for alleged bribery to evade mobilization.

In the Middle East, the US and Israel have concluded a military operation against Iran, and the project to evacuate neutral ships from the Rumuz Strait has been suspended.
