Russia Offers Ceasefire in Exchange for Sanctions Relief: Global Reactions and Continued Attacks on Ukraine

Russia seeks a temporary ceasefire in exchange for sanctions relief, while attacks on Ukrainian cities and debates over Western support continue.

Russia has proposed a temporary ceasefire in its war against Ukraine, contingent on the lifting of Western, particularly US, sanctions. This proposal lacks any security guarantees for Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russian forces continue missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities. Recently, Russia launched 210 attack drones, 190 of which were intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses, demonstrating approximately 90% effectiveness. Nevertheless, there have been new instances of destruction and civilian injuries in Kharkiv, Odesa, and Kryvyi Rih.

On the international stage, Western partners are re-evaluating military aid to Ukraine. In the US, debate is ongoing; Trump urges Europe to finance help for Ukraine independently, while the Pentagon is concerned about the possible withdrawal of American troops from Germany. France is preparing for a potential conflict with Russia, conducting relevant army exercises. President Macron is considering deploying strategic bombers in EU partner countries and increasing the stockpiles of drones and missiles.

Russian propaganda touts improving their positions, but European leaders note that the absence of military hardware at Moscow’s upcoming parade reflects deeper issues within the Russian army. Ukraine continues mobilizing resources in support of its air defenses, calling for increased military and economic aid from its international partners.

Additionally, French politicians are expressing readiness to support Ukraine with nuclear deterrence and other aid. Ukrainians are encouraged to contribute to funds supporting the frontline.
