EU transfers €6.4 billion to Ukraine, Netherlands proposes confiscation of Russian assets: political and military update

Russia is expressing concern about a potential drone attack on Moscow, while the Chinese delegation has declined to visit Russia's capital. Ukraine has already received €6.4 billion in aid from the European Union, with an additional €1.4 billion promised soon. By the end of June, the total amount of financial support will reach €8 billion. The funds have already arrived in Ukraine: the budget committee and government have started utilizing them under European oversight.

The Netherlands, through Finance Minister Eelco Heinen, proposed considering the complete confiscation of Russian state and private assets frozen in Europe, which exceed €200 billion in total. On the military front, Ukrainian forces, particularly the Azov unit, are effectively controlling the airspace over Mariupol with drones. Russian army losses are estimated at 30–34 thousand soldiers per month, which is causing mobilization challenges.

China is cautious about developing military cooperation with Russia due to shortcomings in Russia’s air defense system; therefore, the Chinese delegation decided not to attend the May 9th celebrations in Moscow.
