Russian forces launched another round of aerial attacks on Ukraine overnight, while Ukrainian drones struck strategic targets in Russia’s Lipetsk region and beyond, including facilities tied to drone production. In addition, the cities of Yelets and Voronezh came under fire: in Voronezh, a Russian air defense system mistakenly hit a residential building, injuring 18 Russian servicemen, one of whom is in a coma.
In Yelabuga, where Iranian Shahed drones are manufactured for the Russian military, all mass events have been canceled due to the ongoing threat of Ukrainian strikes, acknowledging the real level of risk and public anxiety.
The day’s main political headlines came from Donald Trump, who announced a pending transfer of up to 17 Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine and discussed US plans to sell arms to European allies that would then be sent to Ukraine. Details remain unclear — it is unknown whether 17 Patriot units, launchers, or missiles are meant, and discussions include JASSM cruise missiles as well. Trump also issued a new 50-day deadline to Russia, threatening 100% tariffs if no deal is reached. As usual, such deadlines may be flexible or even abandoned.
The Russian response was both mocking and aggressive, as propagandists downplayed Trump’s statements, yet the shift in rhetoric from Washington in Ukraine’s favor did not go unnoticed.
On the volunteer front, the Sterenko Foundation supplies 3,000 FPV drones every week directly to Ukrainian troops. Ukrainian units expressed gratitude, emphasizing the strategic importance of these drones in countering Russian aggression. Civilian and business support remains critical to Ukrainian defense, and the foundation urges continued contributions.
Although US backing is appreciated, it is not grounds for overreliance — Ukrainians are reminded to prioritize self-reliance and internal unity on the path to victory.
