G7 Focuses on Ukraine, Discusses Corruption Amidst Peace Negotiations

Highlights from the G7: Ukrainian front as basis for negotiations, sanctions, corruption, and global support for the military.

At the G7 summit, Ukraine was the central topic. Leaders emphasized that the front line could serve as a reference point in possible peace negotiations, and addressed the unacceptability of Russia's proposed conditions, which currently prevent a peace deal.

It was noted that a meeting between Trump and Putin will not occur unless Putin clearly demonstrates his readiness for peace. Mere meetings without substance are off the table. International media, including Bloomberg and The Economist, have drawn attention to issues of corruption and steps toward peaceful resolution. Hungary's Foreign Minister Szijjártó also raised concerns over corruption, highlighting challenges in delivering financial aid to Ukraine.

Journalists stressed the need to distinguish between individual corrupt officials and Ukrainian society as a whole, affirming Ukraine’s progress in anti-corruption reforms and democratic development. They called for continued support for Ukraine, regardless of isolated corruption incidents.

It was also emphasized that the actions of a few must not penalize the entire country: support for the Ukrainian army predominantly comes from citizens themselves. Solidarity and the backing of G7+ partners remain critical, with Russia and its allies excluded from the diplomatic process.

The summit also focused on sanctions: their monitoring, enforcement, and the increased pressure on Russia's economy through existing measures. Two potential scenarios for ending the war were discussed: internal unrest in Russia or Putin’s escalation in another European country.

The Ukrainian delegation reiterated that only Ukrainians determine their future and how long they are willing to fight. They asked the international community to strengthen support, securing European security and stability.
