Renowned Ukrainian journalist, author, and blogger Ostap Drozdov appeared on Radio Chicago to discuss the pressing political issues facing Ukraine: the prospects of peace negotiations, preparations for elections during wartime, and the ethical state of the authorities.
Drozdov highlighted the difficulty of making predictions about negotiations with Russia and the US, as the situation changes hourly. He noted Russia continues to threaten war if its conditions are not met, leaving Ukraine with a choice: agree to difficult compromises or face heavier losses and destruction if hostilities continue.
Addressing the topic of elections, Drozdov offered a skeptical view of the authorities’ legislative initiatives, hinting at the high likelihood of abuse and use of state resources to ensure the incumbent team's re-election. He criticized the lack of equality and competition in the political process, exacerbated by martial law.
The interview also covered the sentencing of the previous leadership. Drozdov called the sentences against former President Yanukovych and associates symbolic, pointing out that key figures remain beyond the reach of justice and their assets continue to operate in Ukraine, often transferred to others.
